I have been creating the series, "Windows on the World," since 2003 and now have painted more than 40. Because of my interest in Asian art and culture, many of them have an Asian influence, either through the use of Kanji or Japanese and Chinese rice papers, or by design. They are painted on 300 lb. watercolor paper using fluid acrylics, and can include palette knife marks, collage, stamping with handmade stamps, and veiling. The veiling creates order out of the chaotic application of paint, scraping and spattering, with the tantalizing marks beneath showing through. In this painting, I drew into the underpainting with acrylic inks to suggest flower forms and leaves.
"Irresistible" was inspired by my love for the beautiful irises I have grown in Denver and here in Michigan. It has been juried into several exhibitions, including the Colorado Watercolor Society's Annual Exhibition in 2009.
